What is Occupational Accident Insurance, and what does it cover?

Why do I need these?

OAI and Med Mal insurance protect you if you or a patient gets injured during a shift. If an injury happens, you should file a claim right away. Also, as you probably know, it’s standard in the industry for all independent healthcare professionals to have OAI and Med Mal coverage when working at healthcare facilities.

Why am I being charged?

To use the On Call for Care Networking Platform, independent professionals must have the required OAI and Medical Malpractice insurance coverage. If you prefer to obtain it yourself, that's fine - just send us proof of your coverage! However, we understand that getting the right insurance can be costly and confusing. That's why On Call for Care partners with reputable insurance providers so you can purchase the necessary coverage directly through the platform. Were you injured during a shift?  How to file OAI Claims

If you sustain an injury while working a shift scheduled through the On Call for Care Networking Platform, your medical expenses are covered! You should immediately report the claim to your occupational accident insurance (OAI) carrier.

Please note, you are not an employee and should NOT file a workers’ comp claim if you get injured during an On Call for Care shift. Reporting a worker’s comp claim instead of an OAI claim may delay processing.

If you purchase OAI coverage via the On Call for Care Networking Platform, you will need to file a claim with Zurich, either by phone or online.

  1. You can file a claim over the phone by calling Zurich’s Claims Center at 866-280-4394. Please choose the option for a Work Injury Claim.

Please be prepared with the following information:

    • On Call for Care’s Policy Number: OCA 5941882-00
    • Your phone number and email address
    • A summary of the injury and when and where it occurred
  2. Or, you can file a claim online by clicking here

If you provided proof of your own occupational accident insurance, please refer to your policy for instructions on how to file a claim.
